Rolwaling Valley with the glacier lake of Tsho Rolpa is located in Dolkha district before the famous Solukhumbhu or Everest area to the east of Kathmandu. This area is divided by the technical pass of Tashi Lapcha (5700m). Rolwaling trek through goes through the valley, passing the Rolwaling river and also the mighty Tama Koshi river. Alpine views, the important glacier lake of Tsho Rolpa and the Sherpa settlements makes this a unique area. The area is not well known and is less travelled, however, the area is very beautiful with the gorge, rivers, waterfalls and lakes with the Himalayan peaks around. Gaurishankar is the major mountain peaks of this area beside many other peaks to its north and east.

The Trek:

The trail follows the valley of the Rolwaling river through the lush and beautiful forest and passes many settlements and the large village of Na and Tsho Rolpa. The walking duration in average is about 6-7 hours a day but it depends entirely on an individual and will vary.

 

The level of the grade of the trek is moderate to strenuous with the highest elevation being over 4000m

 

The trek can be done throughout the year but for settled weather and clear mountain views it is best from autumn to spring and summer through to winter from (September to April and May)
